Caspar Jander

Jander spent his early career in Germany's lower divisions, well outside the usual pipeline that produces a Championship midfielder, and used that time to build a habit of arriving late into the box rather than staying purely defensive. Southampton paid a significant fee to bring him over, a clear signal of how highly they rated a player most English supporters had never watched play. He has already contributed goals from midfield since arriving.

The leap from German football outside the top flight into an English Championship season is still considerable, and plenty of technically gifted midfielders have struggled with the physicality and pace of the switch. Jander represented Germany at youth international level and reached a major final with that side, which suggests the raw talent is genuinely there.
