Sean Longstaff, The Midfielder Nobody Notices

Longstaff wins the ball back and gives it away rarely, doing the simple things that let others look good.

Longstaff plays the sort of role that only gets noticed when it goes missing, sitting in front of the back four and closing down space before an opponent can turn and run at goal. He keeps possession simple rather than forcing a pass that is not on, which sounds unremarkable until you watch how many midfielders give the ball away trying to do more. That discipline lets the expressive players around him take the risks instead.

The knock on a player like Longstaff is that he rarely produces the moment that decides a match himself, doing the covering work while others get the goals and headlines. He has shown flashes of more than that, arriving late into the box for an important goal when the team needed one. Whether Leeds get more end product from him is worth watching.
