Matheus Cunha, The Forward Who Ignores Position

Cunha plays like a forward who was never told to stay up front, drifting wherever the game needs him most.

Cunha receives the ball with his back to goal and uses his strength to hold off defenders, buying just enough time to turn or lay the ball off to a teammate arriving late. He drops into deeper areas more than a typical forward, collecting the ball from midfield and driving at defenders himself rather than waiting for service. His close control lets him escape tight areas that would trap a less physical player, and he finishes chances with either foot.

The tension with Cunha is that his instincts do not always match what a structured attack needs from him. He can drift so far from the penalty area chasing the ball that United temporarily lose their most obvious threat inside the box. Watch how often he actually arrives late into the area rather than starting there, because that late run usually decides between a productive game and a quiet one.
