Broome fits the modern mould of a goalkeeper trusted to receive possession under pressure and start attacks with a considered pass rather than simply clearing his lines. That comfort in possession developed through academy spells at two significant clubs, before he had to leave and rebuild his career through non league football and a string of loan moves. It shaped a goalkeeper who reads the game with his feet almost as confidently as his hands.

There is a personal layer to his story that few teammates share, since he grew up supporting this club long before he had any realistic chance of playing for it. That kind of connection can become a strength when a match gets difficult and the crowd needs lifting, but it can equally add pressure that a goalkeeper from elsewhere would not feel.
