David Harrington

Harrington developed as a goalkeeper in Ireland, helping his boyhood club win promotion. An injury setback then complicated his move to English football and delayed his breakthrough there. His family background means he could have played for either Ireland or Wales at senior level, a reflection of how split his upbringing was between both nations. Once he finally got fit and settled at a new club, he began to look like a reliable shot stopper capable of regular first team football.

The obvious question is whether that settled run of games can continue, after so much of his career so far was interrupted by injury and competition for the gloves. Goalkeepers need a long, unbroken run of matches to build any real rhythm, something Harrington has rarely had the chance to do. Consistency, not raw ability, looks like the real test now in front of him.
