Romelle Donovan, The Forward With The Fierce Left Foot

A young attacker whose long-range shooting already draws attention, even while the rest of his game is still developing.

Donovan strikes the ball with a left foot that carries real venom from distance, which forces opponents to press him higher up the pitch than they might prefer against a young forward. When he is played centrally rather than out wide, coaches have noted how quickly he starts creating chances for teammates instead of simply looking for his own shot. That range of threat, shooting and creating, is unusual in a player still so early in his career.

The tension is defensive discipline, since his coaches have pointed to a tendency to switch off once possession is lost rather than track back immediately. Sheffield United will want the attacking instinct without absorbing the defensive gaps that can come with it at a higher level than he has played before. How quickly he tightens that side of his game will decide how much first-team football he actually earns.
