World Cup 2026: Every Goal England Have Scored in World Cup History

England have scored more than 100 goals across their World Cup history. Explore the players behind them, the most memorable strikes, and the records that still stand today.

England have scored 105 goals in 16 World Cup tournaments, a tally that places them among the top scorers in the competition's history alongside Germany, Brazil, Argentina and France. Those goals span 72 years, from Stan Mortensen's opener against Chile in 1950 to Harry Kane's penalty against France in 2022.

Here is the complete record of England's World Cup goals, the all-time scorers, the most memorable strikes, and how the tally might grow in 2026.

England's all-time World Cup scorers

Gary Lineker leads the list with 10 World Cup goals, scored across two tournaments. Six came at Mexico 1986 and four at Italia 1990, making him the only Englishman to win the World Cup Golden Boot.

Harry Kane is second with eight goals, split between six in Russia 2018 and two in Qatar 2022. Behind him is Geoff Hurst, who scored five across two tournaments, with four of those coming in the 1966 final and semi-final.

The most memorable England World Cup goals

Geoff Hurst's hat-trick in the 1966 final remains the most significant collection of goals England have ever scored at a World Cup, and the only hat-trick ever scored in a World Cup final.

Michael Owen's goal against Argentina in 1998 is arguably the most celebrated individual strike. He received the ball just inside the Argentina half, outpaced two defenders and finished low past Carlos Roa. He was 18 years old. David Beckham's free-kick equaliser against Greece in qualification in 2001 is not technically a World Cup goal but it really felt like one.

Jude Bellingham's overhead kick against Slovakia at Euro 2024 is the most recent piece of England goal-scoring brilliance, though that was a European Championship rather than a World Cup.

Has any England player ever won the World Cup Golden Boot?

Yes, twice. Gary Lineker won it in 1986 with six goals and Harry Kane won it in 2018 with six goals. Both times, England did not win the tournament.

Lineker's six came across five matches in Mexico, including two against Poland, one against Paraguay and two against Argentina in the quarter-final, the game England lost 2-1. He finished one goal ahead of the next-best scorers and won the award despite England going out in the last eight. It remains one of the few occasions an Englishman has led the scoring charts at a major tournament.

Kane's six in Russia came in more dramatic fashion. He scored a hat-trick against Panama, added two against Tunisia and one against Colombia, all in the group stage and round of 16. He did not score again as England beat Sweden and lost to Croatia in the semi-final.

Which 2026 England players could add to the tally?

Harry Kane arrives in 2026 needing two goals to equal Gary Lineker's all-time England World Cup record of 10 and three to stand alone at the top. At 32, this is almost certainly his last World Cup and the motivation is obvious.

Bukayo Saka scored three goals at Qatar 2022 and has been one of the most consistent performers for England across the subsequent two years. Jude Bellingham, with his ability to arrive late into the box, will add to the tally from midfield.

Marcus Rashford, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins provide additional firepower from the bench and starting positions. England's group against Croatia, Ghana and Panama offers a strong platform for Kane and others to build an early total before the knockout rounds begin. Let’s hope they do.
