Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies is Canada's captain in Jesse Marsch's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, a left-back who plays his club football for Bayern Munich in Germany. He goes into the finals at 25, with Canada at the tournament as one of the three co-hosts.

An attacking full-back with explosive pace, Davies combines dribbling, creativity and crossing with defensive cover, and can also play as a winger or wing-back. He has 58 senior caps and 15 international goals for Canada and was the first Canadian to win the UEFA Champions League, with Bayern Munich. This season his club record reads 33 appearances across all competitions. The draw places Canada in Group B alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland, and they open against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on 12 June.

An attacking full-back, Davies is known for his explosive pace, using it to get up and down the left and drive forward with the ball. He combines dribbling, creativity and crossing with his defensive cover, and can also be deployed as a winger or wing-back. He is left-footed and stands 1.83 m, and has logged 1,159 club minutes for Bayern Munich this season, going into the group stage in Jesse Marsch's squad at the age of 25.

Davies's work for Canada comes down the left, where as an attacking full-back his explosive pace and crossing give the side an outlet going forward. He weighs in with goals too, with 15 international goals across his Canada career.
