Martin Boyle

Martin Boyle is a forward named in Tony Popovic's 29-man provisional squad for the 2026 World Cup, ahead of Australia's final 26 due by 1 June. Aberdeen-born, he qualified for and has been capped by Australia, and at 33 he brings 41 caps and 10 international goals into the squad. He plays his club football for Hibernian and is listed in the forward group.

If confirmed, this would be his second World Cup after he was part of Australia's 2022 squad in Qatar. Australia were drawn in Group D with Turkey, the United States and Paraguay, opening against Turkey at BC Place in Vancouver on 13 June. Popovic's side qualified through the AFC route and set up in a 3-4-3. Boyle's place is in the preliminary squad, to be confirmed when the final 26 is named.

Boyle is a direct, pacey wide forward whose game is built on dribbling, energy and a goal threat from the flanks. He runs at defenders and stretches the play down the sides, the kind of attacker who can cut in to shoot or get to the byline.

A prolific scorer for Hibernian, he carries that end product into the national side, with 10 goals in 41 caps for Australia. His pace and willingness to run in behind give Tony Popovic an option to attack space when Australia break forward.

Goals are what Boyle adds in attack: a direct, pacey wide forward with 10 international strikes and a scorer's record at club level. Boyle is among the attackers who could turn that low-cost side into goals when the matches come. His ten international goals are the clearest sign of the end product he carries from the flank.
