Erling Haaland currently leads the 2025/26 race for the league golden boot at 22 goals, with Brentford's Igor Thiago chasing hard on 19. With just under 10 games to go, it's one of the most compelling top scorer battles in years. Before we get to that, here's every winner since the Premier League began in 1992.

Golden Boot records that may never be broken
The record for most goals in a single Premier League season belongs to Erling Haaland, with 36 in 2022/23. In the old 42-game format, Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer jointly hold the record with 34 each. Cole did it in 40 games for Newcastle in 1993/94. Shearer matched it the following season playing all 42 games for Blackburn. Neither is likely to be threatened given the older format no longer exists, but both remain remarkable tallies for their era.
On most wins, Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah share the record with four each. Henry's four came across five seasons with Arsenal, three of them consecutively between 2003/04 and 2005/06. Salah's fourth arrived in 2024/25 with Liverpool when he also won the award for the most assists.
It was a record-breaking year for Salah, as he became the first player in Premier League history to finish a season as both the top goalscorer and the top playmaker while also taking the Player of the Season prize. Robin van Persie is the only player to win consecutive Golden Boots with different clubs, winning it with Arsenal in 2011/12 and Manchester United the following season.
The 2025/26 Golden Boot race so far
Haaland leads with 22 goals through matchweek 30, with Igor Thiago of Brentford second on 19. It's the first time in a few seasons that the Norwegian has faced a genuine challenger this deep into the campaign. Thiago has been exceptional in his breakthrough year, scoring his 19th of the season against Wolves in a run that has made him the most talked-about striker in the division outside the top six.
Danny Welbeck sits third among the top scorers and is having the best Premier League goalscoring season of his career. Haaland is the clear favourite though. If he holds on, it would be his third Golden Boot in four seasons.
